STV Real Heroes Awards – please vote for us

STV Real Heroes Awards, Friday 27th September on STV at 8pm – please vote for us after the show – there will be details on the programme about how to cast your vote.

Crossroads Lewis is celebrating after making the final thirty in STV’s Real Heroes Awards.  From over eight hundred entries around Scotland, we are now in the top three in the category ‘Carer of the Year.’

The coming weeks will see our Care Attendant team filmed as part of a five-part series showcasing the best of those working for those less fortunate in their Scottish community.  The programme will be presented by a famous Scottish face, as they visit Crossroads Lewis to find out about the Care Attendant team, and the people whose lives have been helped by the charity.

Part of our Care Attendant team (l-r):  Norma Ferguson, Dolly Ann Macarthur, Mary Macleod, Alice Mackenzie.

The Care Attendant team were nominated by Karin Slater, Assistant Manager.  ‘Our team of twenty-one ladies thoroughly deserve some recognition for all the work they do, week-in, week-out for the people of Lewis.  They work incredible hours to support those who need it most.  They are hugely valued by those who receive our services, and their families.  It is very much a team effort at Crossroads, and we all feel privileged to be involved in an organisation that is so well-respected.’

The team deliver hundreds of hours of care every month, giving carers a break, supporting those with terminal illness, and providing much-needed companionship to those who are isolated.

When the series is broadcast in September, it will then go to a public vote to decide    the overall category winners, who will then be celebrated at a star-studded, televised    awards ceremony.
